A new chapter for Indigenous tourism in the North

Tłı̨chǫ Adventures Ltd., through My Backyard Tours (MBT), came to us with a bold, community-led vision: to become the leading Indigenous tourism operator in the Northwest Territories while creating meaningful economic opportunities across the Tłı̨chǫ Nation.

Our role was to help chart the course. The resulting plan is both strategic and grounded, weaving together operational scaling, new product development, RTO services, and brand positioning with a deep commitment to cultural integrity and community voice. MBT isn’t simply expanding—it’s transforming into a gateway for Indigenous tourism in the North, where visitors connect directly with land, story, and people.

At the heart of the strategy is the belief that tourism can be a tool for reclamation. It’s about building a workforce rooted in identity, developing experiences that reflect lived knowledge, and ensuring economic benefits stay within Indigenous communities.

From a clear staffing structure and operational roadmap, to a phased vision for in-community experience development, the plan guides MBT’s evolution into a recognizable, trusted platform for cultural tourism—by and for Indigenous people—and sets a new standard for how tourism can serve both visitors and Nations alike.
